What this does not say

Quoted verbatim from the section’s warnings field, exactly as the API returns it. They are not translated: a translation would show something other than what your response actually contains.

  • Licence: CC BY 4.0 (Statistics Norway's general licence, https://www.ssb.no/en/diverse/lisens); the Geonorge metadata for the same grid datasets states NLOD 1.0. Both require attribution: "Statistisk sentralbyrå" (Statistics Norway), with a link to www.ssb.no, and a note of any changes.
  • The figures describe the 250 m x 250 m cell the address point falls in (cell_id is SSB's id: (easting + 2 000 000) followed by the 7-digit northing of the cell's south-west corner, EPSG:25833) and the 3x3 block of cells around it (750 m x 750 m, cells_listed_3x3 says how many of the nine SSB lists). They are area counts, not facts about this address or household, and a 250 m cell can straddle a river, a motorway or a municipal boundary.
  • Confidentiality: SSB applies statistical disclosure control to the grid. Cells with few persons may be rounded or withheld, and SSB changed its confidentiality method for the population grid from 2020 and has described those figures as provisional. Treat small counts (1-4) as approximate, and treat 3x3 sums as approximate too. SSB lists only cells where something is registered: a cell that is not listed is not served as zero. cell_listed_in_population false with population_cell null means SSB lists no population for the cell (no residents registered there, or withheld), not a measured zero.
  • population_change_vs_earlier_years compares the 3x3 total in the latest year with each earlier year loaded (normally 1, 5 and 10 years back; population_history has every year held). population_cell_change is null when the cell was not listed in either year. The residents are folkeregistrert population at 1 January linked to Matrikkel address points; dwellings, buildings and businesses are counted at 1 January of their own year, shown in dwellings_year, buildings_year and businesses_year because the themes are not always published for the same years. establishments_* counts business units and employees_* their employees (Virksomhets- og foretaksregisteret).
  • Attribution required when shown: Statistisk sentralbyrå.

Fields

17 of 28 fields are value fields — the ones that decide whether a record actually says anything. The rest are context: identifiers, codes and timestamps. Fields marked “open” return values to anonymous callers; the rest require a key.
